The full speaker program for the 2016 Brisbane International Garden Show has been unveiled this week, with organisers announcing gardening royalty Costa Georgiadis will join the line-up for the first time at the event being held between 6 and 9 October at Pine Rivers Park.

Event Manager Marion Beazley said close to 100 presentations from nearly 30 speakers would be delivered throughout the four-day show, with the Gardening Australia host joining horticulture experts Graham Ross, Noel Burdette, Annette McFarlane, Claire Bickle, Phil Dudman and many others in taking to the stage.

“Costa is set to present on Friday, 7 October and will bring his infectious energy and signature charisma to the crowds as he discusses ingredients for composting,” Ms Beazley said.

“A landscape architect and permaculturalist by trade, Costa is passionate about sustainable living and possesses a wealth of knowledge about all things gardening.”

“He will also deliver a presentation on the popular trend of verge gardening, which sees people transform the ground bordering their footpath into a productive veggie patch or beautiful garden.”

Ms Beazley said this year’s speaker program would cover everything from floral design and micro gardening, right through to going organic and planting natives in the backyard.

“With over 20 presentations and demonstrations taking place each day, attendees will have the opportunity to learn new skills and hone their gardening techniques in a range of different areas,” Ms Beazley said.

“For the animal lovers, the presentations surrounding worm farming, keeping chooks and urban bee keeping are sure to appeal.”

“We also have a number of sessions dedicated to the foodies among the crowd, with Noel Burdette and Valerie Rence exploring Sri Lankan style cooking, the Two Old Ducks creating delectable salads and sauces, and Warwick Hill detailing how to get the most out of bush tucker plants.”

Mr Georgiadis said he was looking forward to travelling to Queensland for the event and sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for gardening.

“It’s great to see gardening becoming more popular everyday with people of all ages, and I’m excited to share some handy composting tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years with attendees,” Mr Georgiadis said.

“These kinds of events have something for everyone regardless of whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or a novice gardener, so I expect we’ll see tens of thousands of people from Brisbane and beyond passing through the event gates this year.”

The 2016 Brisbane International Garden Show will feature landscape garden displays, dozens of nurseries, a free plant clinic, kids’ activities and a coffee cup upcycling station. The event will be held at Pine Rivers Park, corner Gympie Rd and Kremzow Rd, Strathpine on 6-9 October. Entry costs $20 for adults, with aged concession discounts available and kids under 15 entering free of charge.
