The Parks last piece of Chancellor Village puzzle

11 June, 2013

It’s hard to believe that barely 10 years ago the Chancellor Village precinct at Sippy Downs was little more than an expanse of green acreage and a dream within the minds of father and son team, Harry and Ken Reed.

One decade on, the Village is very much a reality and hive of activity with The Parks residential development —the final component of developer Reed Property Group’s master plan for the region — sold out and settlements now underway.

Reed Property Group (RPG) Managing Director Ken Reed said while the settlement marked the end of the company’s 10-year Chancellor Village journey, it was satisfying to know the precinct would continue to thrive in the coming years.

“The completion of the Chancellor Village precinct isn’t just an exciting milestone for Reed Property Group; it’s also a real win for the Sunshine Coast community,” Mr Reed said.

“The amount of planning and care that goes into developing a community of this size is absolutely phenomenal and it’s so nice to look back over the 10-year journey and see a community really benefiting from the development.”

The Chancellor Village precinct now incorporates a mix of residential housing, commercial offices, retail space for tenants including Joyce Mayne and First Choice, a bustling tavern, early learning centre and landscaped parklands.

Mr Reed said his organisation had seen a wealth of potential in the greenfield site back in 2003, and had subsequently purchased the 11 hectares of prime land for development.

“With the University of the Sunshine Coast having opened in 1996 and the Sunshine Coast population growing exponentially, we saw a huge opportunity to create a thriving community precinct in the Sippy Downs area,” Mr Reed said.

Having set about designing the master-planned community with a strong vision for the future, the RPG team began progressively rolling out each phase of the development from 2004.

“The Lakes development was the first cab off the rank, with the residential complex soon followed by a second gated community called The Brooks in 2005,” Mr Reed said.

“We then went on to design and construct Chancellor’s Tavern, the Chancellor Village Retail Centre, Chancellor Village Commercial Centre and Chancellor Village Homemaker Centre by 2008.”

So successful was the venture that the commercial and retail space remains heavily occupied to date, with big-name organisations including Commonwealth Bank, Suncorp, One Life Health and Fitness, Joyce Mayne and Sam’s Warehouse holding a strong presence within the precinct.

“We pride ourselves on selecting superior sites and designing developments to suit the needs of end users. When you get this right, you’re guaranteed to see positive results and the Chancellor Village precinct is just one example of this,” Mr Reed said.

“The Village also incorporates plenty of walking tracks and recreation areas as well as an early learning centre, as we knew this would be a strong draw card for families in particular who were keen to live in an easy-access hub of facilities.”

Mr Reed said although the Chancellor Village precinct is now complete, RPG will still remain active within the Sippy Downs area.

“While we currently have projects in excess of $500 million in the pipeline right across Queensland, we are planning further investment in the new Palmview precinct in 2013,” Mr Reed said.
