Award-winning Queensland compensation law firm, Travis Schultz & Partners (TSP), is launching into 2024 with its strongest group of leaders yet, welcoming three lawyers to partnership. With a handful of new recruits too – from lawyers to paralegals – the TSP team expands to over 60 staff across its four locations in Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and the Gold Coast.

Kane Stegeman is welcomed this week as the newest member of the partnership group. TSP Managing Partner, Travis Schultz and Mr Stegeman now join forces once more to offer their clients unparalleled access to justice on fair terms, having worked together previously for eight years at firm Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers.

Mr Schultz says “I had the privilege of working with Kane for many years earlier in my legal career, so I have seen first-hand, the diligence, compassion, and professionalism with which he plies his trade. When Kane said he would like to join us and bring his clients across to TSP, I jumped at the chance to be able to work with him once again.”

Mr Stegeman has a deep background in personal injury law, from both sides of the equation as both a defendant and plaintiff lawyer. He is a Doyle’s Guide celebrated lawyer since 2017 and his personal injury expertise is recognised in motor vehicle accidents, workplace injury, total permanent disability claims, and public liability insurance.

This being Mr Stegeman’s first week on the job, he says he looks forward to introducing his clients to the way things are done at TSP – with compassion, fairness, and respect.

“Travis has built a remarkable team by embracing a culture of progress and advancement that has seen many rising stars reach leadership in their careers,” Mr Stegeman said.

“As somebody who is values-led, I am most looking forward to being a part of the people-first culture at TSP.”

This leadership is evident with the firm delighted to announce the promotion of two Special Counsels to Partners within a year of joining TSP. Greg Spinda in the Sunshine Coast office and Emma Davidson in Brisbane, join Mr Stegeman in their new roles, and join existing partners Hugh Powell on the Sunshine Coast, Trent Johnson and Tim McClymont in Brisbane, and Beth Rolton in the Cairns office.

“Our leaders of the future have arrived,” Mr Schultz said.

“They have initiative, aren’t afraid to learn from mistakes, support each other, and give back more than they take – and they have a life outside of work. These rockstar lawyers have a talent for finding efficiencies and a passion for supporting causes that are dear to their hearts.”

Mr Schultz says “Greg and Emma exemplify all we stand for at TSP. As a result of their hard work and dedication to their clients, their careers have moved from strength to strength. And, more than this, they are both passionate advocates for helping others and giving back to the community – an important values pillar here at TSP.

“Greg is one of the great technical lawyers in the compensation law field in Queensland. He is an accredited specialist in personal injury law and has been very active in professional organisations such as the Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) and the Queensland Law Society (QLS) and has already carved out a reputation for excellence in all that he does. We’re delighted that he has chosen TSP to pursue his desire to be a part of a firm that prides itself on industry leading expertise.”

“Aside from Emma’s substantial experience and expertise, she offers her time generously as a Committee Member for the Women’s Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ) and at the Caxton Legal Centre. Emma is a willing mentor, a giving colleague, a trusted advisor and an a truly great ‘people person’. Her contribution to values and our culture, can’t be underestimated,” Mr Schultz said.

With the partnership group now eight strong heading into 2024, Mr Schultz explains what it means to be developing leading lawyers of the future.

“After some tough years with lockdowns and work from home, many lawyers faced the challenge of not being able to learn through one-on-one mentoring. We’ve had to rethink how to best lead and nurture our up-and-coming stars – how they learn, want to be mentored and progress their careers. This has set the stage for some well-deserved promotions,” Mr Schultz said.

And it’s more good news for the Brisbane team who welcomes new lawyer:

  • Jonathon Wright as Senior Associate in the Brisbane office in January.
