The Creek’s new lease on life

August 21, 2012

While a tavern might not traditionally be the place you’d expect to see newborn babies, the newly renovated Creek Tavern is not your regular tavern.

Sam Tomich, of the Tomich Wines family and his business partner, Paul Sawczuk took over the ailing Creek Tavern on Karawatha Drive last year with a lot of work to do.  Since then, they have set about creating an environment that not only has all the assumed characteristics of a modern day pub but also feels welcoming to everyone, from local families wanting a good value meal to mothers’ groups for morning tea or business and networking groups looking for a venue.

“We are keen for people to know that The Creek Tavern is independently owned, we’re not another tavern owned by a multi-national following a standard ‘tavern template’,” said Sam.

“Paul and I are committed to creating a local meeting place which suits a range of needs – great food and wine, a welcoming atmosphere and above all good value for our patrons.”

“Our aim with the modern new styling was to give the place some character and with the cold winter evenings of late, it offers a cosy haven for a good meal.  We wanted to ensure The Creek was an appealing location for families, retirees, businesses to host breakfasts or lunches or just a great place to catch up for a girl’s night out.”

“We look forward to welcoming locals and those from further afield to come and enjoy the Creek experience for themselves, they won’t be disappointed!”

Major renovations have included comfortable corner bench seating, grapevines curling around the walls keeping in line with the connection to the Tomich family vineyard in South Australia, a spacious terrace area surrounded by frangipani trees, ambient lighting, striking wallpapers, wine barrels and new signage.

Head Chef, Anthony Baker, delivers great meals with a firm favourite being poached chicken breast stuffed with camembert cheese, wrapped in crispy prosciutto, served on a bed of pilaf rice with fresh asparagus and a brandy beurre banc sauce.

The Creek Tavern opens at 10am for morning coffees and cake made even more appealing on winter mornings by the sun-drenched terrace.  Breakfast meetings can be booked by appointment.  The dining area is also available for large group bookings including for breakfast or cocktail events with custom menus available on request.
