Sport aerobics gymnasts to compete in state champs
July 30, 2014
Sport aerobics gymnasts from across Queensland will converge on Ormiston to battle it out at the Somerset Sports Centre between 8-10 August as part of the 2014 Sport Aerobics State Championships.
More than 300 gymnasts from 10 clubs will compete in the three-day event, which is renowned for showcasing the creativity and skill of some of the state’s top gymnasts.
Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said this year’s event was sure to impress, with routines set to combine elements of traditional aerobics, sports acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics with music, dance and choreography.
“This discipline of gymnastics has become one of the most popular with spectators over the years due to the high-energy performances and precision and strength required to pull off many of the routines,” Ms Dowdell said.
“Not only will gymnasts compete against other athletes from around the state, they’ll also take on some of their New South Wales counterparts, with North Coast Gymnastics also joining in on the action.”
“Once again, the competition promises to be tough this year.”
Ms Dowdell encouraged sports enthusiasts and anyone interested in taking up gymnastics to come along to the event.
“These events provide an excellent opportunity for those interested in gymnastics to see some of our finest competitors perform complex routines, which are very inspiring to watch.”
The event will be held at the Somerset Sports Centre at Redland City’s Ormiston College and tickets will be available at the door.
