Rhythmic gymnasts meet for state championships

13 June, 2013

Around 40 gymnasts from Brisbane and the Gold Coast will battle it out this weekend at the Gymnastics Queensland Rhythmic Gymnastics State Championships. The event, held at Splitz Gym at Robertson State School on Sunday 16 June, is sure to mesmerise spectators as competitors perform intricate routines with balls, hoops, rope, ribbon and clubs.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the discipline is visually spectacular.

“We have gymnasts from four different clubs, namely Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics, Splitz Gymnastics, Moreton Bay College Gymnastics and Y West Gymnastic Club vying for the title of Queensland Champion,” Ms Dowdell said.

“At this high level, the routines are not only physically challenging but are also delivered with incredible precision and flair.”

“We look forward to the best of the best demonstrating their skills this weekend and encourage anyone interested in gymnastics to come along.”

Also attending the competition will be the Greater Green Island Rhythmic Gymnastics Club visiting from New Zealand. Tickets will be available at the door. For further details on this event, please visit www.gymqld.org.au or call 3036 5607.
