Rhythmic gymnasts leap into state championships

May 1, 2015

More than 100 gymnasts from across Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand will battle it out at the Gymnastics Queensland Rhythmic Gymnastics Senior State Championships to be held at Splitz Gym at Robertson State School on Saturday, 2 May and Sunday, 3 May.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said competitors would be judged on the execution of leaps, balances, pirouettes and how they handled apparatus such as balls, hoops, clubs, ropes and ribbons.

“Rhythmic gymnastics is a visually spectacular sport and never fails to impress spectators attending these events,” Ms Dowdell said.

“At this high level, the routines are not only physically challenging but are also delivered with incredible precision and flair.”
Ms Dowdell said gymnasts from 10 clubs would participate in the event, covering areas as widespread as Brisbane and Wahroonga, right through to Dunedin in New Zealand.

“It’s always great to bring the best of the best together to compete at these events for the title of Queensland Champion,” Ms Dowdell said.

“We look forward to seeing these talented gymnasts demonstrate their skills and encourage anyone interested in gymnastics to come along and watch the routines.”
