Region’s best battle it out

2015 Gymnastics Queensland Junior Regional Championships (Sunshine Coast)

July 27, 2015

Gymnasts from across the region will converge on Maroochydore this month to compete in the 2015 Sunshine Coast Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG and WAG) Junior Regional Championships at Maroochy Beach Gymnastics Club.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said more than 170 gymnasts from eight clubs were set to participate in the events, which will take place on the first two Sundays in August.

“Gymnasts will compete on apparatus such as the vault, rings, parallel bars, horizontal bars and pommel horse, and also demonstrate a series of tumbles and other strength and flexibility displays when they take to the floor,” Ms Dowdell said.

“The competitors that come out on top will then go on to compete at the state championships being held in Brisbane in September.”

Ms Dowdell said she was looking forward to seeing a range of talented gymnasts showcasing their skills during the event and encouraged those with an interest in gymnastics to attend.

“Gymnastics is a great spectator sport and these events always prove popular, particularly with families who either have an interest in the sport or who have young children thinking about getting involved,” said Ms Dowdell.

“We wish all our gymnasts the best of luck and look forward to a great competition.”
