Queensland’s best battle it out at state championships

August 16, 2016

Gymnasts from across Queensland are gearing up to bounce, flip and twist their way to a place on the podium at the 2016 Trampoline and Acrobatic Gymnastics State Championships being hosted by Gymnastics Queensland at the Carrara Indoor Stadium this week.

The event — being held on 20-21 August — is the first time the state championships for the two gymnastics disciplines have been held on the same weekend.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said spectators would be treated to remarkable displays of strength, skill and flexibility throughout the three-day meet.

“The acrobatic gymnastics component of the event will see couples, trios and quads deliver an array of acrobatic formations, dance moves and tumbles set to music,” Ms Dowdell said.

“The high energy routines won’t stop there, with our trampoline gymnasts performing complex jumps, somersaults and twists that are sure to impress the crowd of onlookers.”

Ms Dowdell said close to 400 gymnasts from 24 clubs across Queensland and beyond were set to participate in the event.

“The state championships bring together some of Queensland’s most talented athletes, with participating gymnasts setting their sights on obtaining the coveted title of Queensland Champion.”

“I have no doubt there will be some stiff competition and incredibly high calibre routines delivered.”

The 2016 Trampoline and Acrobatic Gymnastics State Championships will be held at Carrara Indoor Stadium, Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Carrara on 20-21 August. Tickets are available at the door.  For further details on this event, please visit www.gymqld.org.auor call 3036 5607.
