Queensland gymnasts set to represent state at nationals

2015 AUSTRALIAN GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

May 13, 2015

More than 1,000 of the nation’s most elite gymnasts — including 235 athletes from 30 Queensland clubs — will battle it out at the 2015 Australian Gymnastics Championships to be held at the Hisense Arena in Melbourne between 18 and 30 May.

The event will see gymnasts compete across a range of disciplines including Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG), Acrobatic Gymnastics (ACR) and Trampoline Sports (TRP).

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the two-week event was shaping up to be an exceptional showcase of Australia’s most talented gymnasts and she was thrilled to have such a strong team representing Queensland.

“Our team has been training consistently and we can’t wait for these gymnasts to take to the floor and demonstrate what they’re capable of,” Ms Dowdell said.

“I’m confident we’ll have some stand-out performances across all disciplines.”

Ms Dowdell said the Australian Gymnastics Championships provided a great opportunity for gymnasts to prepare for international championship events.

“This is one of only a few opportunities our gymnasts get to go up against Australia’s most skilled gymnasts and we look forward to a very high calibre of competition this year.”

“The title of Australian National Champion is of course one every gymnast strives for so it’s an exciting event for our team with the potential to take home a major title.”
