2017 Gymnastics Queensland Junior State Championships – 16-19 September

Junior gymnasts from across Queensland will compete for the title of state champion this month as part of the Gymnastics Queensland Junior State Championships taking place in Brisbane between 16 and 19 September.

More than 1,000 competitors will put their gymnastics prowess on display at the Sleeman Sports Complex Arena.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said a total of 56 clubs would participate in the four-day event, with gymnasts taking to the floor as well as apparatus such as the vault, bars, rings and beam.

“The competitors have put months of hard work into perfecting their routines and are raring to go after successful performances at a regional level,” Ms Dowdell said.

“Both male and female gymnasts will compete and I am confident we will see some impressive routines throughout the meet.”

Ms Dowdell said the junior state championships were one of the most significant events on the gymnastics calendar, and acted as a stepping stone for high-performing athletes to represent Queensland on the national stage.

“Competitors will have their sights set on achieving a place on the podium and this meet provides a great opportunity for up-and-coming gymnasts to learn from their peers.”

“I wish all competitors the best of luck with their final preparations and encouraged anyone with an interest in sport to come along and cheer on the participants.”
