Queensland Garden Expo takes home major tourism gong

November 23, 2010

The team from the Queensland Garden Expo are celebrating this week after winning the Festivals and Events category at the 2010 Queensland Tourism Awards held in Brisbane over the weekend.

This fantastic expo held in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast is a three-day celebration of all things gardening with this year being the 26th Queensland Garden Expo. The event attracts over 28,000 garden lovers who come along to enjoy displays from over 360 exhibitors.

Queensland Garden Expo Event Organiser, Marion Beazley says that after being a finalist in last year’s awards, taking home the coveted award this year has been an amazing experience given the calibre of finalists.

“We are very proud and humbled to be recognised and awarded as best Festival/Event in Queensland, given we are a not-for-profit organisation which has literally sprung up from out of the ground” said Marion.

The first event was a half day event with 30 exhibitors, 300 visitors, five workshops and a Plant Clinic. Guided by a dedicated group of volunteers the event quickly grew over the ensuing years to the three-day event it is today.

“The Expo is highly regarded as one of Queensland best gardening events and places amongst the top five in the country. Winning this award will only serve to elevate awareness of the event” said Marion.

“With more and more people taking an interest in their garden, the event not only provides a wealth of information and inspiration for visitors, it is also a great and entertaining day out for the whole family.”

The expo will now go on to compete for the national award at the 2010 Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Perth in March 2011.
