Queensland Cup to kick off this weekend

October 17, 2014

Acrobatic gymnasts from across Queensland will go head-to-head as part of the 2014 Gymnastics Queensland Acrobatics Queensland Cup and Junior State Championships this weekend, which will be held at the Super Performance Centre in Ashmore.

More than 150 gymnasts from 11 clubs are expected to battle it out, delivering an impressive display of balance, strength and coordination.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the event would showcase the high calibre of gymnasts within Queensland and she looked forward to seeing the talent on display.

“These competitions never fail to keep the crowds entertained, with plenty of fast-paced action, skill and flexibility being exhibited,” Ms Dowdell said.

“We wish all competitors the best of luck this weekend.”
Ms Dowdell said acrobatics is a particularly popular discipline of gymnastics as it enables athletes to work in a high-energy team environment.

“Sports acrobatics is a great partner sport for couples, trios and quads. It’s fantastic for developing a strong sense of camaraderie between athletes.”

“I encourage anyone that is interested in learning more about the sport or becoming involved to come along and see some of the state’s finest in action this weekend.”

The event will be held at the Super Performance Centre in Ashmore on the Gold Coast and tickets will be available at the door. For further details on this event, please visit www.gymqld.org.au or call 3036 5607.
