In just 12 months, over 130 homeowners have transformed a once-empty site into one of Eagleby’s fastest-growing over-50s communities.
Homeowners at Halcyon Edgebrook have formed a vibrant and active community, with more than 13 resident-led social groups already established ahead of the formal opening of the $15 million community facilities.
These groups span a wide range of interests, including line dancing, walking, fitness, arts, and social gatherings, and reflect the strong sense of connection, initiative, and community spirit that is already flourishing.
Halcyon Communities Project Director Glenn Nugent said the speed at which the community has come to life reflected a growing desire among over-50s to remain connected to familiar areas while enjoying the social and wellbeing benefits of community living.
“What’s been remarkable is how quickly homeowners have embraced community life. In just one year, we’ve watched neighbours become close friends and a genuine community take shape,” Mr Nugent said.
“People are looking for more than just a home – they’re looking for connection, friendship, activity and a sense of belonging, and we’re seeing that develop naturally here at Halcyon Edgebrook.
“That’s a big part of why the land lease model is resonating with so many over-50s – beyond the greater financial clarity and flexibility it can offer, it’s the lifestyle and social benefits of a connected community that people are increasingly seeking.”
The milestone was celebrated last week with a hoedown-style first birthday event attended by 150 people spanning homeowners, staff and prospective buyers, with music, line dancing and country-inspired festivities paying homage to Eagleby’s rural roots and neighbouring farming landscape.
Among those celebrating the milestone were Maureen and Mike Freer, who were among the first homeowners to move into Halcyon Edgebrook 12 months ago after leaving their two-acre property.
“It’s been incredible to watch how quickly the community has grown,” Mr Freer said.
“When we first moved in there were only a handful of homes, and now the place feels very alive. There’s a real social atmosphere and you’re sure to find people with similar interests.
“We’ve become involved in lawn bowls, darts and social activities, and there’s always another event or activity to look forward to.”
Mr Freer said the couple were drawn to Halcyon Edgebrook’s community feel and connection to Eagleby’s rural character and open space, while still offering a lower-maintenance lifestyle.
“Moving here has completely changed our day-to-day lifestyle,” Mr Freer said.
“We’ve gone from spending most of our time maintaining a large property to catching up with neighbours who have quickly become close friends. There’s always someone to talk to and you’re never short of an invitation for a coffee or tea.
“As you get older, that sense of connection and knowing there’s always someone close by becomes really important. There’s a very warm and secure feeling living here.”
Halcyon Edgebrook has continued to experience strong buyer demand, with more than 100 of the community’s 318 homesites now sold and Release 13 set to launch this month.
The community facilities that are expected to open later this year will further expand opportunities for homeowners to connect, stay active and pursue shared interests.
