Noosa Long Weekend Festival tickets to go on sale
February 25, 2015
More than 10,000 event and culture enthusiasts are gearing up to attend the much anticipated 2015 Noosa Long Weekend Festival, with tickets set to go on sale on Monday, 2 March.
With a line-up that includes a special one-off performance by Opera Australia, an evening with the Queensland Ballet and David Williamson’s new play Dream Home, which he is directing, Festival Director Ian Mackellar has said that the 2015 event had now grown to 13 days to accommodate the program and will be presented between 14 and 26 July 2015.
“Last year’s festival was undoubtedly a hard act to follow with more than 10,000 visitors to 35 venues and locations, but we’ve worked hard to lift the bar even higher in 2015 and are thrilled to have Opera Australia perform a fully staged production of its acclaimed opera The Magic Flute to the Sunshine Coast for the first time ever,” Mr Mackellar said.
“This is a real coup for the Sunshine Coast community and is bound to attract visitors from around Australia.”
The Magic Flute cast and orchestra will perform a full scale production of the last opera ever written by Mozart at the Noosa Leisure Centre on Tuesday 14, July as the opening event for Noosa Long Weekend Festival 2015.
“The production is set in the 1930s, complete with authentic-looking Egyptian tomb set and sensational 1930s costumes. The stage will come alive with colour and movement, as our hero embarks on a quest to find wisdom and true love,” Mr Mackellar said.
“The Noosa production of The Magic Flute will be sung in English and performed with a chamber orchestra, as well as a choir of local Noosa children.”
Other festival highlights include An Evening with the Queensland Ballet led by artistic director Li Cunxin (author of autobiography Mao’s Last Dancer), as well as an exclusive performance by internationally acclaimed concert pianist and Steinway artist Julian Gargiulo (direct from New York’s Carnegie Hall), and the Queensland premiere of David Williamson’s play Dream Home.
“We’re also thrilled to be welcoming star of The Voice 2014 Jackson Thomas in concert, as well as energetic and talented entertainer Rob Mills.”
Mr Mackellar said the 2015 Noosa Long Weekend Festival would feature more than 75 events at various locations around Noosa including literature events, forums, live music, theatre performances, interactive art, films, cabaret and supper clubs.
“Based on previous years, we expect to see events booking out soon after tickets are released. Our 2014 Queensland Ballet performance was one of the many events sold out within a matter of days, so it’s crucial that people wanting to attend get in early to secure their seats,” Mr Mackellar said.
