New chef designs menu for all tastes
30 May, 2013
Darren Westphal has been serving up meals to Sunshine Coast diners for almost a decade and now he’s putting all of his knowledge and experience into designing a new menu for The Creek Tavern.
He’s not giving too much away just yet, but he can promise the menu, which will be finalised by mid-June, has a lot of variety including Asian infusions, spicy Moroccan meals, fresh seafood and hearty steaks.
“I have improved the current menu to cater to all types, so whether you’re after a traditional pub meal or something a little exotic, we’re able to suit your tastes,” said Mr Westphal.
Mr Westphal has already been surprising customers with his signature dish, Char Sui Pork Belly.
“It’s been selling extremely well,” said Mr Westphal.
“I also love cooking (and eating!) Twice Cooked Duck with a ginger, lime and soy glaze.
“I’ve perfected my recipes over 23 years of working in kitchens around Queensland.”
Mr Westphal finished his chef apprenticeship in 1990 and set off to a sizzling start after being named Queensland’s apprentice of the year.
Since then he’s worked at The Edge in Montville, the Sunshine Coast Turf Club, Pelican Waters Hotel, two restaurants in the Whitsunday Islands and helped set up two restaurants from scratch in Brisbane, both of which are still operating successfully.
He said he was drawn to The Creek Tavern because of its potential.
“I think the Creek has a great ambience and I would like to be a part of it as it grows,” he said.
Venue owners, Paul Sawczuk and Sam Tomich said they’re extremely pleased to have such an industry professional on board.
“We know Darren will bring an x-factor to how we do lunch and dinner here,” said Mr Sawczuk.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming people in the doors and finding out what they think of what we have on offer!”
The Creek Tavern is located in Karawatha Drive, Mountain Creek. For more information regarding the tavern and its courtesy bus service, visit www.thecreektavern.com.au or call (07) 5478 1333.
