McNab has won a Queensland construction award for the Maroochy Private Hospital, a $100-million development in the heart of the emerging Maroochydore City Centre supporting access to specialist healthcare on the Sunshine Coast.

The project was named Best Health Facility over $20 million at the 2026 Queensland Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards, which recognise outstanding quality and construction excellence.

A joint development by Fortius Hospitals and Barwon Investment Partners, the 10-storey hospital was designed to accommodate six operating theatres, recovery rooms and capacity for 56 beds, alongside three levels of medical and allied health tenancies.

McNab Sunshine Coast Construction Manager Luke Martin said the win reflected the commitment of the project team, delivering a major healthcare building ahead of schedule despite challenging conditions. “Delivering an $100-million hospital building six weeks ahead of schedule and within budget, and now seeing it recognised as Queensland’s best in its category, is a proud moment for our team and everyone who has worked with us to deliver this project,” Mr Martin said.

“We experienced prolonged wet weather during construction and regional labour shortages put real pressure on the programme, but our local subcontractors ‒ backed by McNab’s own trades, procurement and equipment teams ‒ kept finding ways to keep things moving without compromising on quality.

“That’s the culture we’ve built at McNab. We back each other, work through challenges together and take pride in what we deliver, and this award really recognises that shared effort.

“For our team, there’s something special about helping build a hospital that will support our own community for years to come.”

The project builds on McNab’s contribution to the Maroochydore City Centre, following its delivery of Sunshine Coast City Hall in 2022, which was awarded the Master Builders Queensland Project of the Year in 2023.

Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Fortius Hospitals, Professor Daevyd Rodda, congratulated the McNab team.

“From the beginning, we designed Maroochy Private Hospital around the way surgeons, nurses and patients actually move through it,” Professor Rodda said.

“McNab understood that brief and delivered a landmark purpose-built facility, created to provide a premium patient experience.

“Just months after opening, Maroochy Private is already becoming a destination hospital, with patients travelling from across regional Queensland and interstate for their care.

“We’re delighted the industry has recognised what the team achieved, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped bring a $100 million investment in Sunshine Coast healthcare to life.”

Designed by HSPC Health Architects, the 11,876 square metre building features a rooftop terrace with indoor and outdoor lounge spaces and four levels of car parking.

During construction, the McNab team used precast concrete columns across the carpark levels, helping accelerate construction and shave approximately 24 days off the schedule. The hospital also connects to Maroochydore City Centre’s automated waste collection network, which transports waste and recyclables through underground vacuum pipes to a central collection point, reducing the need for waste trucks in the precinct.

The team also diverted 90 per cent of construction and demolition waste from landfill and used lower-carbon concrete across most structural elements, supporting the project’s target of a 4-Star Green Star rating.

“Having delivered City Hall, our team has been part of the city centre’s story from its early days. To now see Maroochy Private Hospital recognised among Queensland’s best makes that contribution even more special,” Mr Martin said.

“Our commitment to local healthcare also brought our project team, subcontractors and partners together to raise around $50,000 over two years for the 92.7 Mix FM ‘Give Me 5’ appeal. We’re keeping that momentum going, with our next fundraiser for this important cause taking place next month at our Sunshine Coast Airport project.”

“That’s what contributing to a community means to us: delivering quality buildings that support the region’s growth and getting behind local causes together. This award is a proud recognition of a team that puts that commitment into action.”

The hospital was one of three McNab projects recognised at the Queensland awards, alongside the Novus Precast Manufacturing Facility at Wellcamp, which won Commercial/Industrial Building from $10 million to $25 million, and Surf Life Saving Queensland’s Gold Coast Headquarters, which won Commercial/Industrial Building from $3 million to $10 million.

The three Queensland category winners will compete for national honours at the National Master Builders Awards at The Star in Brisbane on Friday 27 November.
