Local Coffee Roaster to Open Espresso Bar at Emporio

Expanding Maroochy Blvd precinct will welcome Houston Espresso Café in early 2013

In need of a coffee fix along Maroochy Boulevard? Have we got a cuppa for you!

Local coffee purveyor Houston Espresso has announced it will unveil a new espresso bar in Maroochydore’s Emporio community in January 2013.

The Houston Espresso Café, as it will be known, becomes the first food and beverage retailer to open its doors in Emporio, the mixed-use development that’s now home to a blend of residential, commercial and retail tenants. The Café will compliment the newly relocated Emporio sales office which will also be located on the ground floor of 2 Emporio Place, the complex’s commercial building.

Sharp eyes already know the name “Houston Espresso”. The locally roasted coffee brand, owned by Adrian Stainsby, is already available in his two Loaded Lizard cafés, one on the Mudjimba Esplanade and the other at the Sunshine Coast Airport. Additionally, the brand sells roasted coffee via wholesale channels. The Emporio location will be the first to carry the Houston Espresso moniker.

“What’s going to set this location apart from our other stores is our intense focus on coffee,” Mr Stainsby said.

“The Houston Espresso Café is, at its heart, an espresso bar and our coffee’s quality will be the centre of our attention.”

Mr Stainsby noted the role that location played in his decision to open within the Emporio development.

“Brand awareness and placement were critical to us when we were deciding on our position. We’re very excited to be in the ‘growth’ part of Maroochydore, alongside top-tier neighbours such as KPMG, Parsons Brinckerhoff, the Travel Associates, Harvey Norman, Lexus, Mazda and more.”

Another factor in his decision to open up at Emporio?

“The entire look and feel of Emporio reflects the direction that I see my brand taking going forward,” Mr Stainsby said.

In addition to coffees, the Houston Espresso Café will also offer a selection of food with an emphasis on fresh and locally sourced ingredients.

“We’ll rotate a modern menu, from sushi and salads to deli rolls, with economical daily specials,” Mr Stainsby said.

The Café will also provide catering services, a perk for the growing number of commercial tenancies in the area as the emerging Maroochydore CBD comes to life. The Café’s fit-out is expected to be completed by the end of January, with a view to having an official opening in early February.

“We love celebrations, and cannot wait to join Emporio in a toast,” enthused Mr Stainsby. “Not only will we celebrate the opening of our newest café, but also the new home of Emporio’s sales office. Surely this calls for a mug of top-class espresso!”

Mr Stainsby is a long-time fixture in the Coast community, with a strong following for his beans. His Mudjimba Loaded Lizard café has been in business for six years, while the Airport location will soon celebrate its third anniversary.

“The Coast has an ever-increasing reputation as a Mecca for java lovers. We look forward to showcasing our blends to the coffee fans in the Maroochydore area,” Mr Stainsby said.

Oh, and contrary to what popular assumptions might be, the brand is not named after the Texas city, nor the street in Manhattan – but rather after Mr Stainsby’s middle name.
