Sunshine Coast residents will road trip their way around the region this month in the name of charity, with the Kawana Chamber of Commerce hosting a community car rally on Sunday, 9 April.
The annual event – which departs at 10am from the Kawana Waters Hotel car park on Nicklin Way – will see local businesspeople and anyone looking for a fun day out with family or friends come together to raise much-needed funds for Wishlist, STEPS Charity and SunnyKids.
Kawana Chamber of Commerce President Linda Delamotte said entrants would navigate their way to a mystery location using an envelope full of questions and clues.
“We estimate it will take each car one to two hours to decipher the clues and wind their way to our final pit stop, where plenty of prize draws and laughs await,” Ms Delamotte said.
“A barbeque will be offered at the final destination where attendees can purchase lunch and drinks as well as participate in the raffles.”
Ms Delamotte said $10 from every car involved would be donated to attendees’ preferred charity.
“We’re delighted to be supporting so many worthy local charities through this event and will also use the raffles on the day to raise funds.”
“Following on from our end-of-year charity event, we are once again getting behind SunnyKids who deliver thousands of nights of emergency accommodation on the Sunshine Coast each year and offer employment support and homeless services as well as resilience-building, literacy and wellbeing programs in schools.”
“We’re also thrilled to have STEPS Charity on board – an organisation that is well known for assisting young people with a disability to live more independently – and Wishlist, which is committed to raising money for the improvement of local public health services.”
Ms Delamotte said the event aimed to bring people together in a laid-back setting, allowing participants to foster new relationships.
“While there is bound to be plenty of friendly rivalry and banter on the day between entrants, the rally focuses on having fun and forming networks in a relaxed environment rather than being in it to win.”
The Kawana Chamber of Commerce Biz Car Rally will depart at 10am on Sunday, 9 April from the Kawana Waters Hotel car park, with chamber members and non-members welcome to attend. Bookings are essential and entry costs $40 per car.
