The St George area’s newest aged care home has welcomed its first residents, with 40 people moving into Estia Health Kogarah on 20 March.

Estia Health CEO and Managing Director Norah Barlow said after a construction period spanning almost two years, she was delighted to see the $25 million home open its doors.

“Move-in day is always such an important milestone and we were thrilled to celebrate the occasion with our new residents and help them to settle into their brand new home.”

“We had 40 residents transfer across from our existing Blakehurst home to the new site at Kogarah.”

“The building incorporates 69 ensuite rooms, so we will begin to fill the remaining vacant rooms over the next few months and expect these will be in strong demand now that prospective residents have the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art building and see all of the amenities and social activities.”

New resident Pamela Sparkes – who has been living at Estia Health’s Blakehurst home for the past year – said had been excited to move into her new room at Kogarah.

“I like new things, so I’m happy to be moving into a brand new building,” Ms Sparkes said.

Fellow resident Barbara McNamara echoed Ms Sparkes’ sentiments, and said she had been counting down the days until she could move in.

“More than anything, I am looking forward to all of the entertainment and using the cinema.”

“It is also nice to have access to the in-house hairdressing salon as well as the library.”

Estia Health Kogarah also features a computer hub with internet access, a private dining room for family gatherings and registered nurses on-site around the clock.

Mrs Barlow said residents could take part in a range of group activities such as Zumba and gardening classes.

“We also hold themed movie nights and coordinate regular bus outings,” she said.

Estia Health is one of the largest residential aged care providers in Australia with 68 homes nationwide. The company operates 11 homes in the Sydney area alone, including two locally at Bexley and Bankstown.
