Inaugural Family Expo a rich resource for parents
August 26, 2014
Two great local business owners, Sunny Coast Kids family website owner Lara Hodgson and Kylie Martin owner of Chatter-boxes Speech Pathology Services, have come together to create the inaugural Sunny Coast Kids Family Expo which will be held at Lake Kawana Community Centre on September 24.
Families will have access to a wealth of knowledge including how to get savvy with the technology their kids are using, family nutrition, the latest information on children’s activities and services and even GPS tracking to keep their kids safe.
Expo coordinator and owner of sunnycoastkids.com.au, Lara Hodgson said the expo was about providing an opportunity for families to learn and share ideas on how to nurture a family life that is healthier, happier and provides more time to spend together doing things they enjoyed.
“The Sunny Coast Kids Family Expo aims to provide parents with a central location to obtain as much relevant information from local businesses as possible,” Ms Hodgson said.
“Parenting raises lots of questions and we’d like to create an environment where parents can find some helpful answers and practical solutions to provide the best opportunities and experiences for their children.”
“For example, Chatter-boxes Speech Pathology Services will provide expo goers with some insight into how they can identify whether their child’s speech and language skills are developing appropriately. Other exhibitors include support for FIFO families and children with disabilities, sport and fitness programs, experts on child safety and GPS tracking devices, musical programs, photographers, entertainment and much more.”
Expo-goers will also be able to attend information sessions by keynote speakers focused on making family life easier, car seat safety checks, fun activities for the kids, food and coffee galore and entertainment for the whole family.
Ms Hodgson said the speakers will talk about diet, speech, exercise and first aid, amongst other topics.
“We have some excellent speakers confirmed including Nef Pearce from FIFO Families who will explore the difficulty of the FIFO lifestyle and how to resolve the isolation and loneliness it can cause, and how to turn a challenging lifestyle into one where you can reap the rewards,” Ms Hodgson said.
“Yvette Adams, author of ‘No Kidding – Why Our Kids Know More About Technology Than Us (and What We Can Do About It!), will explore the ever-growing technological gap between parents and kids and encourage parents to embrace technology to help stay connected to their kids, keep them safe and to take advantage of the benefits technology can bring to family life.”
Tickets to the inaugural Sunny Coast Kids Family Expo will be $5 for adults and free for kids. The Expo will be open from 9am-4pm and for more information or to learn more about exhibiting at the Expo, visit www.sunnycoastkids.com.au/expo.
