High-flying acrobatics head to state champs

April 18, 2012

Acrobatic gymnasts from across Queensland will battle it out at Ormiston College in Brisbane for the Gymnastics Queensland Acrobatics State Championships on April 29. Over 190 gymnasts from 10 clubs are vying for a place in the Queensland team to compete in the National Championships in Sydney in May.

Kym Dowdell, Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer said that the talented gymnasts will have a chance to compete against their counterparts from clubs across Queensland and the competition promises to be tough this year.

“Acrobatic gymnastics, or ‘acro’ as it is known, is a dynamic and spectacular sport to watch. It is a partner sport for couples, trios and quads which combines strength, flexibility and the technical precision of gymnastics as well as the grace and musical flow of dance,” said Ms Dowdell.

“We encourage those interested in acrobatic gymnastics to come along and see some of our finest competitors perform and wish all our gymnasts the best of luck.”

The event will be held at the Somerset Centre, Ormiston College in Ormiston and tickets will be available at the door. For further details on this event, please visit www.gymqld.org.au or call 3036 5607.

Ends.
