Woombye will play host to approximately 100 gymnasts from across Queensland as part of the 2018 Aerobic Gymnastics Queensland Cup taking place on 24 and 25 March at Nambour Christian College.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said competitors would be vying for a position on the Queensland state team.

“The Queensland Cup presents an opportunity for these talented athletes to showcase their skills, with gymnasts aiming to be selected to compete at the upcoming national championships.”

Ms Dowdell said those involved would perform complex, high intensity movement patterns to music.

“The competition runs over two days with gymnasts judged on artistry, execution and levels of difficulty,” she said.

“This discipline of the sport incorporates performances from individuals, pairs, trios and groups, so we’re bound to see a variety of routines over the course of the weekend.”

Ms Dowdell said the Queensland Cup event was one of the state’s premier aerobic gymnastics events.

“This meet provides a great opportunity for gymnasts to come together, have some fun, demonstrate their prowess and get a feel for the competition environment,” she said.

“It’s always exciting to watch the high-energy performances and I highly recommend bringing the family down to Nambour Christian College to see the gymnasts in action.”

“Competitors have been honing their routines over the last month so I have no doubt we’ll see some truly spectacular displays.”

The 2018 Aerobic Gymnastics Queensland Cup will be held at Nambour Christian College, 2 McKenzie Road, Woombye. Spectators are welcome, with tickets selling at the door for $15 per session.
