Gymnasts set to represent Queensland in Nationals

July 4, 2013

Over 1,200 of the country’s best gymnasts are preparing for the 2013 Australian Gymnastics Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park which will see the best of the best compete for gold when the event kicks off on July 7.

The event includes 275 gymnasts from 26 Queensland clubs and includes five gymnastics sports disciplines, namely Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG), Acrobatic Gymnastics (ACR) and Trampoline Sports (TRP).

Kym Dowdell, Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Director said the twelve-day event will be an exceptional showcase of Australia’s most elite gymnasts and is confident the Queensland competitors will shine across all disciplines.

“We are delighted to have such a strong Queensland team to take to the Nationals and as always, these events provide a great opportunity for our gymnasts to demonstrate what they are capable of and to impress the judges,” said Ms Dowdell.

“This is the only opportunity our gymnasts get to go up against Australia’s most elite gymnasts and to prepare for national and international championships and we look forward to a very high calibre of competition this year. The title of Australian National Champion is of course one every gymnast strives for so it’s an exciting event for our team with the potential to take home a major title.”
