Gymnastics QLD awards recognise standout gymnasts

Gymnastic Qld 2012 Annual Awards

December 4, 2012

Gymnastics clubs from across the state will converge on The ‘Ship Inn’ at Southbank to celebrate the 2012 Gymnastics Queensland Annual Awards on Friday, January 11.

The awards dinner is designed to commend those clubs modelling best practice and to acknowledge clubs and individuals who have made contributions to gymnastics in the past 12 months.

Kym Dowdell, Gymnastics Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer said the event is a great opportunity to recognise the standout performers within the sport.

“By applauding those clubs that set the benchmark we hope to encourage others to follow suit and to continue to raise the bar of gymnastics across the State,” said Ms Dowdell.

MCs for the night will be Queensland’s London Olympians, Joshua Jefferis and Thomas Pichler, the latter of which recently announced his retirement from competitive gymnastics. Fellow Olympian Larissa Miller will also be in attendance as the who’s who of gymnastics is recognised. Nominations come from Gymnastics Queensland Affiliated Clubs, Registered Technical Members and Gymnastics Queensland Board and Sports Management Committee Members.

Alongside the over 20 clubs nominated for awards it is sure to be a night to remember as the event has an entertaining ‘circus’ theme with guests being asked to celebrate Gymnastics in fun circus dress.

Ends.
