2019 Gymnastics Queensland Senior Regional Championships (SEQ)

Almost 250 senior gymnasts will spring into action this weekend for the 2019 South East Queensland Artistic Gymnastics Senior Regional Championships being held at Gold Coast Gymnastics from 30 to 31 March.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said athletes from 27 clubs – would compete in the hope of qualifying for the state championships being held in April.

“The Senior Regional Championships are a fantastic event, with gymnasts set to show their strength, skill and agility in a variety of disciplines,” Ms Dowdell said.

“The 162 female gymnasts will demonstrate complex routines on the floor, vault, uneven bars and beam, while the 87 male gymnasts will compete in floor, vault, horizontal bar, parallel bars, rings and pommel horse.

“Strong competition will certainly be on the cards but meets like this one also give gymnasts the opportunity to experience the formal competition environment and learn from their peers.

“Gymnasts will be working hard to qualify for the Senior State Championships which will be held in Brisbane next month, so their hard work will be on show at this meet.”

Saturday’s competition will feature MAG Senior Internationals Indigo Dragon from Gold Coast Gymnastics Club/ Gymnastics Queensland High Performance Centre, as well as Hudson Irwin and Heath Thorpe both from Super Performance Centre/Gymnastics Queensland High Performance Centre.

Senior International Kate Sayer from Robertson Gymnastics Centre/Gymnastics Queensland High Performance Centre will be competing on Sunday and is sure to delight the crowd.

Ms Dowdell wished all competitors the best of luck and said she encouraged the community to come along and enjoy the spectacle.

“Gymnastics is a fantastic spectator sport and the Senior Regional Championships offers a great day out where some of South East Queensland’s best gymnasts will showcase their dedication and skill in the sport.

“There will be some high profile gymnasts competing so this is a great opportunity to see them in action.

“If you’re looking for an entertaining weekend, this event is not to be missed.”
