2019 Gymnastics Queensland Senior Regional Championships (CQ)

Nineteen female senior gymnasts will spring into action this weekend for the 2019 Central Queensland Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Senior Regional Championships being held at Yeppoon Gymnastics on Sunday 24 March.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said athletes from four clubs – including Gladstone Gymnastics, Gymfinity Bundaberg, Victoria Park Gymnastics Rockhampton and Yeppoon Gymnastics & Movement Centre – would compete in the hope of qualifying for the state championships being held in April.

“This is the first time Central Queensland Senior Regionals has been hosted by Yeppoon Gymnastics & Movement Centre, with gymnasts set to show their strength, skill and agility on the floor, vault, uneven bars and beam,” Ms Dowdell said.

“Strong competition will certainly be on the cards but these meets also give gymnasts the opportunity to experience the formal competition environment and learn from their peers.

“Gymnasts will be working hard to qualify for the Senior State Championships which will be held in Brisbane next month, so their hard work will be on show at this meet.”

Yeppoon Gymnastics & Movement Centre Head Coach Chris Pisani said he was excited to welcome the nineteen competitive gymnasts and anticipated strong performances from two gymnasts in particular.

“Grace Humphries and Yasmine Kerr of Victoria Park Gymnastics will be aiming to achieve a successful Level 10 pass,” Mr Pisani said.

“This is the highest level a gymnast can achieve, outside of the international stream, and these gymnasts should be applauded for their dedication and commitment to the sport.”

Ms Dowdell wished all competitors the best of luck and said she encouraged the community to come along and enjoy the spectacle.

“With free entry into the event, the Senior Regional Championships offer a great day out where some of Central Queensland’s best gymnasts will showcase their dedication and skill in the sport.”

“If you’re looking for an exciting Sunday, this event is not to be missed.”
