Call for deserving couple to win the ultimate wedding package

August 26, 2014

Last year Sunshine Coast couple, Nathan and Christina Moon got to celebrate the marriage they never thought would be possible after Christina was diagnosed with a terminal illness earlier in the year.

Their spectacular Hinterland wedding was made possible thanks to the Sunshine Coast initiative, My Wedding Wish which has once again gained the support of Sunshine Coast wedding suppliers to donate a magical wedding, renewal of vows or commitment ceremony to a deserving local couple.

My Wedding Wish proprietor Lynette Maguire said the tremendous success of the 2013 project made it an easy decision to repeat the competition this year and called on Sunshine Coasters to help identify a couple that meets the requirements.

“Christina and Nathan’s wedding day was incredible – one of the most emotional weddings I have ever attended and to know that My Wedding Wish made it all possible is very rewarding,” Ms Maguire said.

My Wedding Wish is aimed at couples where one or both parties has a terminal or life-changing illness, or has suffered extreme hardship.

Ms Moon suffers from Adenocarcinoma of the bowel and metastasis in the liver which was diagnosed when she was 21 weeks pregnant with the couple’s second child. She was advised that she would not survive the pregnancy without starting chemotherapy immediately and a caesarean was booked for 36 weeks. Their son tragically died in utero at 33 weeks.

Christina still has chemotherapy on a fortnightly basis and while her condition is terminal, the current treatments have slowed down the growth of the tumour.

“Our wedding was a very special gift and I can’t begin to express our gratitude to the generous wedding suppliers who made our day possible,” Ms Moon said.

“My Wedding Wish is an inspirational initiative and I encourage couples who have experienced a similar journey to ours to get on board and submit an application. The wedding gave Nathan, my son Blair and me something positive to focus on and has given us some very special memories to hold onto.”

The 2014 wedding package is valued at over $20,000 including the spectacular Sunshine Castle as the venue and all the regular wedding trimmings such as flowers, rings, cakes, hair and make-up, photography as well as the added extras of pampering sessions, a photo booth, a sweet table and cars to transport the happy couple.

This year the package also includes accommodation for the bridal party the night before and the night of the wedding at the iconic Bli BlI House Bed and Breakfast, a luxury riverside retreat.

The My Wedding Wish is open to couples wanting to be legally married, same sex couples wanting a commitment ceremony, or married couples wanting a renewal of vows. The ceremony will be held at 10am on Thursday, 4th December 2014 and the couple may invite 30 guests to the ceremony and the reception.

Applications close on 30 September and can be obtained from the My Wedding Wish Facebook page www.facebook.com/WeddingWish or the website www.myweddingwish.com.au.
