Brisbane to host SEQ gymnastics championships

March 21, 2014

Gymnasts from across the region will converge on Brisbane this weekend to compete in the 2014 Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics South-East Queensland Senior Regional Championships to be held on Saturday, 22 and Sunday, 23 March.

The men’s event — to be held at the Brisbane Grammar School Indoor Sports Centre — will see almost 80 senior gymnasts from 14 clubs compete on apparatus such as the vault, horizontal bar, pommel horse, rings and uneven bars as well as completing floor routines to demonstrate a series of tumbles and other strength and flexibility displays.

More than 140 female gymnasts from a range of South-East Queensland-based clubs will also battle it out nearby at Brisbane Girls Grammar School’s McCrae Grassie Sports Centre.

Kym Dowdell, Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Director said organisers were looking forward to seeing a high calibre of the gymnasts in action at both events and encouraged those with an interest in gymnastics to attend.

“Gymnastics is a great spectator sport and these events always prove popular with families who either have an interest in the sport or who have young children thinking about getting involved,” said Ms Dowdell.

“The Gymnastics Queensland Regional Championship events provide a wonderful opportunity for the community to support local gymnasts who will compete against the best in the region. We wish all our gymnasts the best of luck and look forward to a great championship.”
