Big Wrap goes aorund the world to celebrate nurses’ contribution

18 February 2010

International Nurses’ Day is fast approaching and preparations for the annual RNS Big Wrap for Nurses celebrations are well underway, which will see the return of the annual Golden Bed Pan Bed Race to be held at Forest Glen on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, May 8.

Now in its fourth year the event, hosted by Queensland-based Regional Nursing Solutions (RNS), aims to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contribution nurses and health care workers make to the community by dedicating a day of activities and celebrations to them.

2010 has been officially declared by the United Nations as the International Year of the Nurse and also marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Florence Nightingale, who is celebrated for pioneering the foundations of the nursing profession.

To celebrate the dedication and achievements of nurses who continue to improve the standards of health around the world today, this year’s Big Wrap event will take on an ‘Around the World’ theme.

What started as a fun day to thank nurses for the wonderful work they do, has become quite a talking point with some teams already in training for the big race.

Teams involved in the 2010 Big Wrap will have the opportunity to run, grab, wrap and dodge their way to victory for the highly coveted Golden Bed Pan Trophy.

RNS Managing Director, Sue Dunlop says the highly entertaining race has attracted significant attention over the years and the fun day out has become a highlight on the nursing calendar.

“The event serves as a great way to thank our nurses for all the work that they do throughout the year and a day to have fun, network and connect with others in the industry,” said Sue.

“There wouldn’t be an Australian who hasn’t personally been touched by the wonderful service our nurses provide – whether for themselves, family or friends. They are there for us when times are tough and this event gives us the opportunity to say thank you.”

RNS aims to provide an initiative which not only encourages the community to recognise and celebrate their contribution, but also foster a culture of positive progression.

“As the event grows we hope to spread our message a little further. Everyone’s life has been touched by those in the nursing or health care profession and for us it’s just about giving those men and women the big wrap they deserve,” said Sue.
