Are you Queensland’s next Olympian?

August 27, 2014

The call is out for budding gymnasts who have an Olympic dream and the talent to match to attend the Gymnastics Queensland High Performance Centre talent identification day at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Brisbane on September 29.

Kate Cannon, Gymnastics Queensland’s High Performance Manager said the day provided a fantastic opportunity for the state’s best performing gymnasts to demonstrate their skills and potentially secure a spot in Queensland’s elite performance centre.

“The High Performance Centre is a state-of-the-art training facility for our gymnasts, which has seen the likes of Olympians Larrissa Miller and Joshua Jefferis and Australian national champions like Naoya Tsukahara and Georgia Godwin go through their paces in preparation for international events,” Ms Cannon said.

“The Centre not only provides world-class facilities, it also offers gymnasts the opportunity to train with internationally renowned coaches to give them the best possible chance to excel on the national and international stage.”

“We encourage the talented young gymnasts from across the state to attend the trials in order to be considered for the elite training program. This is really the next stepping stone for aspiring gymnasts to increase their experience and have access to some of the best coaching Australia has on offer.”

“Gymnasts from across the state are expected to attend and we already have registrations from South East Queensland and as far north as Weipa,” Ms Cannon said.

“It promises to be a very exciting day as we unveil some of the best talent we have in our state – we hope to meet some of our future Olympians.”

The trials will be held on Monday, 29 September at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Old Cleveland Road, Chandler, Brisbane with men’s trials from 9am-10.30am and women’s trials from 2pm-4pm.

Registrations are essential and close on September 25. Forms are available on the Gymnastics Queensland website by following the link to the High Performance Centre or by emailing Kate Cannon on kcannon@gymqld.org.au.

Ends.
