All work and plenty of play for new residents

25 September, 2013

Having recently breezed in from just outside the USA’s ‘Windy City’ Chicago, American husband and wife team Eric and Angela Slead have become the latest Sunshine Coast residents to live and breathe Maroochydore’s new ‘live, work, play’ lifestyle.

The couple has just moved into a residential Emporio apartment and taken up a 140m2 retail tenancy at 5 Emporio Place, where they opened their new business, Premier Chiropractic at Emporio, last week.

Dr Eric Slead said he and his partner had looked at a number of retail spaces in the region before settling on the mixed-use precinct.

“With Maroochydore marked as the Sunshine Coast’s principal activity centre, we knew our business would benefit from being located here and the added attraction of being in a mixed-use development ticked all the boxes in regard to lifestyle,” Dr Slead said.

“The new venture is sure to keep us busy, so the convenience of being able to walk between home and work made Emporio an attractive choice.”

“Between its CBD location and combination of modern residential, retail and commercial space, Emporio seemed to fit the bill perfectly, both for ourselves and our business.  We’re just excited to be on the Coast and starting our new life here.”

Reed Property Group Senior Development Manager Dean Bromage said the property settlement of the retail space the Sleads are moving into marked the first retail strata purchase at 5 Emporio Place.

“The retail and commercial building at 2 Emporio Place has been occupied with tenants such as KPMG, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Ferguson Cannon Lawyers and Houston Espresso Cafe for some time now, and it’s great to see the retail space in Building Five filling up as well,” Mr Bromage said.

“We’re excited to welcome the Premier Chiropractic at Emporio team and to be extending the range of services offered within the precinct.  With the health sector being a primary focus for economic development on the Coast, the Sleads are a great example of how we can bolster the growth of this sector in the coming years.”

The new chiropractic clinic places a strong focus on delivering natural chiropractic care as well as educating clients through workshops and expert information.

Dr Slead said given the amount of interest the clinic had already received, he was looking to employ a third staff member in the coming weeks.

“We’re really looking forward to expanding our team,” Dr Slead said.

“I will be undertaking the chiropractic work and my partner will manage the day-to-day running of the clinic. If the first week of opening is anything to go by, I’m sure the next few months in particular will be a busy time for us and it will be great to have an extra set of hands on deck.”

Dr Slead said he didn’t anticipate it would be difficult to find a pool of keen applicants.

“Between the stunning views and restaurants and cafes virtually on the doorstep for lunch breaks and after-work drinks, I think there’ll be a lot of people putting their hand up for the job,” Dr Slead said.

“My wife and I are already enjoying the lifestyle, particularly having our apartment, workplace and local entertainment venues within easy walking distance of one another.”

Emporio incorporates a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments priced from just $267,500, as well as commercial and retail space.

With individual floor plates capable of sub-division, the development provides a range of flexible options for lease or strata sale for businesses looking to relocate, expand or establish on the Sunshine Coast.
