Abundance of garden experts, entertainers and education at Expo

June 9, 2011

Gardening enthusiasts can look forward to an action-packed program of high calibre speakers and advice on all things gardening at the 27th annual Queensland Garden Expo being held at the Nambour Showgrounds from 8-10 July.

Highlights will include Costa Georgiadis of Costa’s Garden Odyssey fame, featuring for the first time at the Expo. Fresh from filming his latest gardening show which screens on SBS, Costa will appear Centre Stage and at the Kitchen Garden each day sharing his passion and perspective on ‘Why Food Matters’ and how you can ‘Grow Your Health Yourself’.

Event Organiser, Marion Beazley says that this year’s event will be the biggest yet with the return of some of Australia’s well-loved garden gurus including Colin Campbell, ABC radio host Annette McFarlane, Brisbane Botanical Gardens Curator Ross McKinnon, local ‘no-dig gardening’ expert Leonie Shanahan as well as a host of passionate gardeners and foodies.

“We are extremely excited about this year’s event with a sensational line-up of horticultural specialists, informative demonstrations, workshops and cooking shows covering topics as diverse as creating a native garden, growing tropical fruits at home and discovering how the Brisbane Botanic Gardens are at the forefront of some exciting medicinal plant breakthroughs,” said Marion.

The event which attracts over 28,000 garden lovers each year will also see the return of the well-known Plant Clinic, providing free expert advice and gardening essentials brought to you by some of Australia’s leading horticultural experts.

“With an increasing number of home gardeners enjoying the rewarding pastime of gardening, our guest speakers will appear at our Plant Clinic, meeting one-one-one with visitors to discuss their garden queries and quandaries. It’s fantastic to see visitors leave feeling inspired and well equipped to take their garden to the next level”, said Marion.

Offering something for everyone, the Expo provides a festival-like atmosphere with a delectable display of fresh and organic food stalls, engaging entertainers including nature-inspired stilt walkers, roving musicians and surreal street theatre performers. For junior gardeners and the young-at-heart, discover the children’s garden and enjoy the free kiddies entertainment and playground area.

The Queensland Garden Expo is ranked alongside many of Australia’s famous garden shows and will also feature leading landscape designers and displays and over 50,000 plants on offer making this the largest collection of plants on sale to be seen in one place.

The complete Garden Expo Program magazine will be available in the Sunshine Coast Daily on Wednesday July 6, 2011.
