Queensland gymnasts go for gold at state championships

September 9, 2010

Excitement is building as Queensland’s finest young gymnasts prepare for the annual Gymnastics Queensland State Championships, where over 730 of the nation’s most talented gymnasts will battle it out from September 17-20 in Caloundra.

The four-day event, sponsored by Gymnastics Queensland and Caloundra Tourism, features over 45 local and interstate clubs and the young gymnasts from across the state will have the opportunity to shine as they compete for gold.

Kym Dowdell, Gymnastics Queensland Competitive Events Director says the event which includes the Border Challenge and Sunshine Team Challenge showcases the remarkable talent in Queensland.

“Events such as these enable the young gymnasts to not only compete for the coveted titles but also to learn from the best. We have some of Queensland and

Australia’s most talented gymnasts and we are delighted to once again host the event on the beautiful Sunshine Coast,” said Kym.

“Fans can also look forward to enjoying commentary by 2008 Olympian, Sam Simpson and performances by several National Champions.”

This year’s event will see competitors between 8-25 years of age coming from Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and the ACT.

“This event has always been a firm favourite for spectators and we encourage fans to come along to support the gymnasts as they demonstrate their remarkable skills,” said Kym.

The event is held at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium at Golden Beach on the Sunshine Coast and tickets are available at the door. For further details on this event, please visit www.gymqld.org.au or call 3036 5607.
