Central Queensland qualifier attracts area’s acrobatic gymnasts

March 14, 2016

Acrobatic gymnasts from across Central Queensland will demonstrate their strength, poise and flexibility this month as part of the 2016 Central Queensland Acrobatic Qualifier 1 event taking place at Gladstone Gymnastics Club on Sunday, 20 March.

Close to 40 gymnasts will participate in the event, with competitors representing Gladstone Gymnastics Club, Revolution GymSports and Emerald Gymnastics and Trampoline Club.            Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the event was the first qualifier in a series of three in the Central Queensland region that would enable athletes to qualify for the Acrobatic State Championships being held in August.

“Gymnasts first compete at a regional level, with the strongest performers then going head-to-head with other skilled athletes around the state.”

“Queensland has numerous highly talented acrobatic gymnasts in its midst and we wish those competing in the Central Queensland qualifier event the very best of luck.”

Acrobatic gymnastics is a partner sport for couples, trios and quads, and combines strength, flexibility and the technical precision of gymnastics with the grace and musical flow of dance.

Ms Dowdell said the sport required participants demonstrate balance and coordination while working in a team environment.

“This discipline of gymnastics calls for a high level of trust and camaraderie between partners and it always presents an enjoyable experience for spectators as they watch competitors flip, twist and tumble across the floor.”

Ms Dowdell said members of the public were welcome to watch the routines on the day.

The event will be held on Sunday, 20 March at Gladstone Gymnastics Club, with tickets available at the door. For further details on this event, please visit www.gymqld.org.au or call (07) 3036 5607.
