Somerset Sports Centre to host state champs

Aerobic gymnasts from across Queensland and northern New South Wales are gearing up to flip, leap and bound their way to a place on the podium, participating in the 2015 Sport Aerobics State Championships being held at the Somerset Sports Centre in Ormiston between 7-9 August.
More than 260 athletes from nine clubs will compete in the three-day event, which combines elements of traditional aerobics, sports acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics with music, dance and choreography.
Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said with the discipline renowned for showcasing the creativity and skill of some of the state’s top gymnasts, this year’s event was sure to impress.
“While the talented competitors make the routines look easy, the reality is that a lot of planning, skill and precision goes into each of the high-energy performances,” Ms Dowdell said.
“This year, Queensland gymnasts will not only go head-to-head against each other; they’ll also take on some of their New South Wales counterparts, with North Coast Gymnastics joining in on the action.”
“As always, the competition promises to be tough, and I have no doubt we will be treated to some visually spectacular performances.”
Ms Dowdell encouraged sports enthusiasts and anyone interested in taking up gymnastics to come along to the event.
The event will be held at the Somerset Sports Centre at Redland City’s Ormiston College and tickets will be available at the door.
