Rapid transport system spells boom for Southport

March 16, 2011

Property experts on the Gold Coast are anticipating an increase in Southport’s real estate values with the recent confirmation that Queensland’s first light rail system, the Gold Coast Rapid Transit system, will bring Southport residents to their front door as early as 2014.

Mark Montague, Director of Project Marketing and Sales at Which Property?, believes savvy investors and residents alike will recognise this window of opportunity to purchase apartments in the area which will soon have direct access to high demand locations such as the new Gold Coast University Hospital, Griffith University, Southport medical precinct as well as the popular tourist and shopping areas of Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach.

“Properties such as the recently completed Southport Central in Scarborough Street now not only boast a location in the heart of the Gold Coast’s commercial, retail, recreational and medical precinct, but also a public transport system that will revolutionise the way people travel on the Gold Coast,” said Mr Montague.

“We believe that this enhancement to the current infrastructure will have a positive impact on the growth and rental returns of real estate in the immediate area and that these highly desirable, quality apartments represent a rare opportunity for buyers wishing to capitalise on Southport’s growth.”

The 13 kilometre light rail system has 16 stations planned for Stage One with high quality bus interchanges planned for Southport and Broadbeach. The system will have the capacity to transport a higher volume of passengers than bus rapid transport, has a lower environmental impact and is anticipated to stimulate the economic investment along its route.

“This project will change the way people live and work in this area. If you’re looking at a development such as Southport Central, residents will literally have the light rail go past the front door giving them all the benefits of convenient public transport without the usual noise related issues of regular rail options,” said Mr Montague.

Southport Central comprises of one bedroom plus study, two bedroom and two bedroom plus study options. All floor plans have been designed to capture the surrounding views with floor-to-ceiling glass and open-plan living and dining areas which seamlessly flow onto lifestyle balconies. From its striking exterior to the impressive views of the Broadwater, ocean or hinterland and state-of-the-art designs and fittings, Southport Central offers unique CBD living by the sea. Apartments start from $348,000.
