2019 Gymnastics Queensland Senior Regional Championships (FNQ/NQ)

More than 50 senior gymnasts are preparing to spring into action for the 2019 North Queensland Senior Regional Championships being held at Gymnastics Townsville on Sunday 31 March.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said athletes from six clubs – including Gymnastics Townsville – will compete in the hope of qualifying for the state championships being held in April.

“The Senior Regional Championships are a fantastic event, with gymnasts set to show their strength, skill and agility in a variety of disciplines,” Ms Dowdell said.

“The 49 female gymnasts will demonstrate complex routines on the floor, vault, uneven bars and beam, while the five male gymnasts will compete in floor, vault, horizontal bar, parallel bars, rings and pommel horse.

“Strong competition will certainly be on the cards but meets like this one also give gymnasts the opportunity to experience the formal competition environment and learn from their peers.

“Gymnasts will be working hard to qualify for the Senior State Championships which will be held in Brisbane next month, so their hard work will be on show at this meet.”

Ms Dowdell wished all competitors the best of luck and said she encouraged the community to come along and enjoy the spectacle.

“Gymnastics is a fantastic spectator sport and the Senior Regional Championships offers a great day out where some of North Queensland’s best gymnasts will showcase their dedication and skill in the sport.”
