Home gardens bloom amidst financial pressures
May 10, 2010
Organisers believe the pressure of the Global Financial Crisis on businesses and home owners will create a bigger and better 26th Queensland Home Garden Expo than ever before with site bookings up over 15 per cent on the same time last year.
Queensland Home Garden Expo Organiser Marion Beazley says there seems to be a trend towards increased investment in the home garden to create a welcome retreat away from the pressures of people’s daily lives.
“With increased interest rates and continued pressure on people’s financial wellbeing, we believe family holidays and outings have become less affordable bringing people back to the garden as a source of entertainment and relaxation,” said Marion.
“We have seen an increased trend towards ‘Grow Your Own’ and sustainable living practices which has seen a new group of people develop an interest in gardening. They are attracted to the Expo to gain valuable advice on how to achieve the best results.”
The 2010 Queensland Home Garden Expo which runs from July 9-11 will surpass all previous years with over 360 exhibitors, six live stages and over 50 nurseries showcasing their innovative ideas on creating the picturesque home garden.
Last year saw record-breaking crowds with over 27,000 visitors flocking to the event to access the wide variety of plants, gardening products and advice from renowned green thumbs including Colin Campbell, Annette McFarlane, Ross McKinnon and Phil Dudman.
‘The Home Garden Expo has always had the mission to offer experienced and novice gardeners alike the opportunity to connect and share ideas in a family-friendly atmosphere,’ said Marion.
‘A major attraction of the Expo is the huge variety of plants on display and for sale. With the largest range of plants likely to be found in one place in Queensland , the Expo attracts gardeners from far and wide. Over 60 per cent of our visitors come from outside the Sunshine Coast so the event provides a major boost to our local economy,’ said Marion.
If you are a novice, an avid gardener, a collector or just looking for a great day out, be sure head along to this year’s Queensland Home Garden Expo.
