2011 Gymnastics Queensland State Championships start tomorrow

Local gymnastics clubs are in the final stages of preparation for this week’s highly competitive Gymnastics Queensland State Championships which will see the state’s best battle it out at the Sleeman Sports Complex Arena in South Brisbane from June 24-28.
Over 800 gymnasts from 50 clubs will compete in the men’s, women’s and rhythmic gymnastics disciplines for a place on the podium as well as selection for the Queensland Nationals team who will compete in Perth in mid-July.
Kym Dowdell, Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer said the five-day event will be an exceptional showcase of the state’s most elite gymnasts and encourages spectators to come along to support their local competitors.
“The gymnasts will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities and to learn from the best in the state as we have some of Queensland and Australia’s most talented gymnasts participating in this championship,” said Ms Dowdell.
“These events provide an excellent opportunity for those interested in gymnastics to see some of our finest competitors in the sport and with National’s and World Championships not too far away, the gymnasts will be striving for the best performance possible.”
These first class athletes include Australian 2008 Olympian Sam Simpson, five Commonwealth games gymnasts and Chloe Sims who has come out retirement to compete for a coveted place in the Nationals team.
