The Creek’s Great Wine Challenge to lend a Helping Hand this weekend

Whether you’re a wine connoisseur who’d like to taste your way around the Antipodes or you’re looking for a relaxing Sunday afternoon sampling great wines with your friends for a good cause, the inaugural Great Wine Challenge at The Creek Tavern will be the place to be on Sunday, October 14.
Paul Sawczuk and Sam Tomich, owners of the recently renovated venue, will host an afternoon of good food, live music and a great deal of wine tasting, showcasing over 50 wines from vineyards across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The event will also support a good local cause with a donation from each ticket sold going to the Sunshine Coast Grammar School’s ‘Helping Hands’ program.
Sam, whose family owns the award-winning Tomich Hills vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, says the event aims to raise the awareness of the new-look tavern while supporting a great local initiative.
“We are excited to launch The Great Wine Challenge which we hope will become a much-anticipated annual event bringing people together from across the Coast,” said Sam.
“During the course of the afternoon guests will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite wine to help determine winners in the various Wine Challenge categories with regard to variety, winery and country. In our experience, getting a group of friends together for a wine tasting, enjoying good food and live music on a lazy Sunday afternoon is the perfect combination and we look forward to creating an iconic event for The Creek in years to come.”
“We are also excited to be to generating some much-needed funds for the Helping Hands program which sees Sunshine Coast Grammar School staff, parents and students do very impressive garden and home makeovers for those who need of it most across the Coast.”
A percentage of ticket sales will go to the school-based program which gives students the opportunity to get involved in community service at the ground level. Staff and students from Sunshine Coast Grammar give up their time to dig deep by cleaning, mowing as well gardening in a ‘backyard blitz’ style project to help out those in need. Inspired by programs such as ‘Random Acts of Kindness’, Grammar Helping Hands is about giving time, not just money, and looking for opportunities to reach out to others who need a helping hand.
Some of the most popular vineyards which will be showcased at the event include Australia’s award-winning Tomich Hill wines, the Grant Burge 5th Generation Range, New Zealand’s Villa Maria and Stellenrust Wines from South Africa.
Guests will have an opportunity to soak up the chilled-out, jazzy tunes of “Key Element” before enjoying toe-tapping covers by “Sheez Jake” later in the afternoon.
Tickets are $20 per person or $100 for six tickets, which includes a commemorative glass, tasting notes and the opportunity to taste over 50 wines throughout the afternoon. Those attending can also receive great discounts on a selection of premium estate-grown wines available on the day and all orders over $200 will get free home delivery within the local area or 10km radius.
