Stratford gymnasts shine at state championships

April 22, 2016

Far North Queensland gymnasts put their athletic prowess to the test  and came out on top at one of Queensland’s most significant annual gymnastics events — the Gymnastics Queensland Senior State Championships and State Trial — which took place in Brisbane between Thursday, 14 April and Sunday, 17 April.

The event saw more than 300 athletes vie for a place on the podium throughout the four-day competition.

Barron Valley Gymnastics Club athlete Anna Kuroda placed second in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Level 9 division on day two of the competition, with a second silver medal also awarded to Haney Martens for his performance in the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Level 7 Open division on day one.

Level 9 gymnast Monet Visser also joined teammate Anna on the podium throughout the event, placing second for her vault routine.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the event had presented some stiff competition and she was impressed by the calibre of performances delivered throughout the meet.

“The state championships shine the spotlight on Queensland’s most elite gymnasts and provide athletes with the opportunity to practise performing in a competitive environment,” Ms Dowdell said.

“We are very proud of all of those athletes that participated and showcased their skills.”
