Sister Turns One!

Sister Turns One!

February 16, 2006

Palmwood’s organic café, Sister, celebrated its first birthday recently with an evening of entertainment, fresh organic food and good company.

The café was started by Hayley Robinson last year and has become a popular destination for locals and visitors from across the Sunshine Coast . Hayley’s wealth of experience, including working with Jamie Oliver in London , has created a café focussed on sustainability, supporting local community and offering food with integrity and passion.

The evening of celebration was held in front of the café as regulars, friends and family spilled out onto the pavement and showed their support. Live music was provided by Jess McAvoy who recently performed at the Woodford festival.

“We have had unbelievable support at Sister and it was a great way to celebrate our first birthday,” Hayley said. “It’s encouraging to see that people have definitely become more aware of what they are eating and the benefit of going organic.”

“I would only serve to my customers what I would eat and with my health concerns, that means organic, healthy, wholesome food – but it’s still got to taste great!”

Hayley was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February 2003. She was spending time in Australia following the “Jamie Oliver Live” Aussie Tour and due to return to London to continue her work for Jamie when she got the news.

“It was a big blow and instead of returning to my exciting cosmopolitan lifestyle I had to consider the possibility of chemotherapy and radiation. I knew I had to make some serious decisions about how I was going to face the fact that I had cancer,” Hayley said.

After extensive research into the disease, she decided to against the conventional course of treatment and decided to tackle the disease through clean living, organic food, chiropractic care and emotional healing.

Embarking on this journey brought her to a point where opening Sister fitted well with her personal goals, healthy lifestyle and her passion for cooking and coming up with creative ideas. And the good news is, she hasn’t looked back!

Ends.
