Somerset Sports Centre to host state champs

September 10, 2015

Queensland’s most talented junior gymnasts are gearing up to compete in the Gymnastics Queensland Junior State Championships which will see approximately 800 athletes go head-to-head at the Sleeman Sports Complex Arena in Brisbane from 25-28 September.

The competitors — aged between seven and 17 — hail from 53 gymnastics clubs across Queensland and will showcase their prowess on apparatus including the vault, bars, rings, beam and floor.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the four-day event would incorporate both the men’s and women’s disciplines of artistic gymnastics and provide up-and-coming gymnasts with the opportunity to test their skills against the best in the state.

“The junior state championships are the culmination of 12 months of hard work and offer Queensland gymnasts the chance to take home a much-coveted state title,” Ms Dowdell said.

“Many of these competitors will be the future stars of the sport, so this event not only allows spectators to see some budding sports stars in action; it also provides our young gymnasts with the opportunity to gain valuable competition experience.”

“We wish all athletes the best with their final preparations.”
