New products launching at Garden Expo

July 1, 2011

Gardening aficionados are counting down the days to the Queensland Garden Expo and seeing what new products, exhibitors and features will be on display when the Garden Expo gets underway on July 8 at the Nambour Showgrounds.

The three day expo is the launching pad for a number of simple yet ingenious new ideas including the Ezypot trolley, Wheelie Bin Screens and Club Greens’ backyard putting greens.

On the flora front, the Expo continues to impress with many of the 60 nurseries launching new plant varieties, including Peter Heaton of Heaton’s Ferns unveiling his new Anthirium Black Queen.

Queensland Garden Expo Event Manager, Marion Beazley is delighted there are so many new plants and innovative products available and that some exhibitors are specifically choosing to launch them at this Expo.

“While gardening is a traditional pastime, there are a great deal of innovative and cutting edge technologies and products available to the modern gardener. If In the past many people felt like they were either a green thumb or not, today there is no excuse as anyone can grow plants regardless of the space and conditions available to them,” said Marion.

“We are proud to host such highly regarded event, attracting new and accomplished local and interstate exhibitors and speakers – many of them returning again and again to connect with the fabulous people who visit the Expo every year”.

Ezypot, one of the new products being launched at the Expo, is the brainchild of Bruno Paoletto from Buderim and was the People’s Choice winner from the ABC New Inventors series. Knowing that back injuries often occur as a direct result of lifting heavy items, namely garden pots, Bruno designed this convertible trolley offering a multitude of uses. Essentially Ezypot is designed to move large pots and packages and comes with two attachments to suit the item you are moving.

Another local inventor, Faruk Buzaki of Glasshouse Mountains has just released his own ‘greens for the back yard’ – putting greens, that is. For all the gardening and golfing enthusiasts, Club Greens offers a personal putting green for the backyard. The only requirement is a flattish surface such as a lawn, deck or patio making the “Pro-1” easy to install and similar to playing on a real green but without the upkeep.

Australians are renowned for being house-proud so for those who can’t bear the sight of the unruly 240 litre rubbish bins, another clever invention launching this year is the Wheelie Bin Screen designed to hide the rubbish bins and make the area more aesthetically pleasing.

“As well as our fantastic line-up of speakers, the two new features not to be missed are the flora and fauna conscious Living Backyard site presenting a number of fascinating exhibits and the Gardeners and Gourmets marquee with dynamic garden2kitchen duo Phil Dudman and Julie Ray,” said Marion.

If you haven’t already marked the dates on your calendar, don’t miss this three-day celebration of all things gardening that last year attracted over 28,000 visitors who enjoyed displays from over 360 exhibitors, breaking all previous records.
