Mentoring program provides helping hand for Coast businesses

March 21, 2013

After what has been a challenging year for numerous small businesses on the Sunshine Coast, the Kawana Waters Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KWCCI) has recently launched its 2013 Mentor Program, which provides local businesspeople with practical skills for running a sustainable and profitable entity.

KWCCI President Jo Hall said the chamber had partnered with business coaching specialist Ariel Inigo from ActionCOACH to develop an informative course that was shaping up to be even better than the successful 2012 mentoring program.

“The new program is first-rate, with Ariel set to guide our mentorees through eight topics relevant to small businesses, including business planning, cash flow management, marketing, sales, the importance of processes and procedures, leveraging and service and people,” Ms Hall said.

“Mentorees are then partnered with a mentor or two to help them apply the learnings within their business.”
Ms Hall said the chamber had elected to run the course for a second consecutive year after the 2012 program received rave reviews.

“All 2012 participants said they would recommend the course to a friend and rated the program with an eight out of ten or higher — we even received one 11 out of 10!”

Ms Hall said with many Sunshine Coast businesses doing it tough in the current economic climate, the chamber was offering the eight month program at a heavily subsidised rate.

“We recognise it can often be difficult for business owners to spare the money needed for investing in developing their business, marketing and customer service skills, particularly when the economy isn’t at its strongest,” Ms Hall said.

“While the course is valued at $4,000, we are offering it to our members for just $400, which is our way of lending a hand and providing local businesses with the support and resources they need to get ahead.”

A limited number of spaces are still available within the Mentor Program. To register your interest, contact Glenda on 5491 5362 or email chamber@kawanachamber.com.au.
