Local MP to share experiences with Coast women
January 25, 2011
MP for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson, will be joining the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network when they kick off their first monthly breakfast for the year at the Maroochydore Surf Club on Tuesday, February 8.
With an impressive list of achievements to her name, including being the youngest woman to be elected to Queensland Parliament at the age of 27, elected Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Leader of the Nationals, a string of awards and degrees and let’s not forget recording her own album prior to her ministerial days, Fiona Simpson currently holds the position of Shadow Minister for Main Roads and Transport.
This role is keeping her particularly busy with the recent flooding where she has been demonstrating her hands-on approach by helping local residents clear some of the flood debris.
President of the Sunshine Coast Business Woman’s Network, Sue Willis said she was excited about welcoming Fiona as a guest speaker as she is certain to provide members with the inspiration and enthusiasm to kick start their year, along with a few interesting stories. She believes Fiona’s reputation for hard work, strong community representation and unwavering commitment to her constituents is what has seen her re-elected six times.
“Fiona is passionate about her local community and having grown up here has a strong affinity with the Sunshine Coast. She has been extremely supportive of the Business Women’s Network over the years and a frequent guest at our tables, so to have her share with us about her commitment to building a stronger community and encourage our local business women is wonderful,” said Sue.
“Two of Fiona’s favourite sayings are: “don’t sit back and whinge about it, have a go and make a difference”; and “there has never been a cynic who has changed the world for the better” which are perfect for all our members to contemplate as they plan for a successful year in 2011”.
