Hoops, balls and ropes at the ready for rhythmic gymnastics challenge
June 5, 2015
Close to 100 gymnasts from South East Queensland are gearing up to participate in the 2015 Rhythmic Gymnastics Challenge 1 this weekend, which will be held at Marymount College in Burleigh Waters on 6 June.
Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the rhythmic gymnasts — aged between six and 18 years — would demonstrate their skills on the floor throughout the event.
“This discipline of gymnastics is often regarded as the most visually spectacular with competitors performing intricate routines with the ball, hoop, rope and clubs,” Ms Dowdell said.
“Gymnasts will compete both individually and in groups and given the calibre of the competitors on the day, we expect the event will provide hours of entertainment for the whole family this weekend.”
Ms Dowdell said seven local clubs were registered to participate in the event, including Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics, Premier Gymnastics Academy, Logan City PCYC, Splitz Gymnastics, Aspire Gymnastics Academy, Jimboomba Gymnastics and PCYC Tweed Heads.
“Each club brings a range of talented gymnasts to the floor and we look forward to seeing the gymnasts battle it out and wow the crowds with their routines.”
The Rhythmic Gymnastics Challenge 1 will be held at Marymount College, 261/285 Burleigh Connection Road, Burleigh Waters on 6 June, with tickets are available at the door. For further details, please visit www.gymqld.org.au or call 3036 5607.
