Hall Contracting wins significant Ranger Mine contract

Australian-based dredging and civil construction company Hall Contracting has won a $27 million contract to carry out remediation work at Energy Resources of Australia’s Ranger Uranium Mine in the Northern Territory.
The project will involve operating and maintaining the mine’s cutter suction dredge to safely remove and transfer approximately 26 million cubic metres of mine tailings to the mined-out Pit 3 for long-term disposal in accordance with statutory requirements.
Hall Contracting Managing Director Cameron Hall said the dredging operations would be staged over a six year period, with works scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2015.
“One of the most paramount considerations throughout the tender process was the provision of detailed strategies for upholding the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management and our team has gone to great lengths to ensure stringent control measures are implemented while working in this delicate environment,” Mr Hall said.
Mr Hall said approximately 15 specialist staff would carry out the project on-site, with support from the company’s head office on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
“Where possible, we will be hiring skilled local workers from the Northern Territory to work on the project, and also calling on existing team members to manage operations,” Mr Hall said.
“We’ll be using purpose-built state of the art equipment including a 27m stainless steel dredge and a workboat, which Energy Resources of Australia has had designed and constructed specifically for this project.”
“The combination of experienced staff, best-practice HSE controls and specialist equipment ensures the project can be handled safely and competently.”
Mr Hall said he was thrilled to be working on the large-scale project and looked forward to commencing operations in the coming months.
“Our team has carried out a range of tailings dredging projects at ports, mines and power plant reclamation sites on behalf of clients including Fortescue Metals and Xstrata, so we’re well-equipped to undertake this project and are keen to see the many months of careful planning with the project team come to fruition,” Mr Hall said.
