Pedal power is taking on a whole new meaning this week, with First Light Mooloolaba making a bold statement by including an impressive line-up of electric bikes for residents to use in the area when they move into the development in the next couple of weeks.

Division 4 Councillor John Connolly complimented First Light developers Reed Property Group (RPG) saying it was a smart move and hoped other developers would follow suit in considering sustainable initiatives as part of the product offering.

“Having electric bikes available in one of our premier tourist hubs epitomises all the Coast represents – healthy living, sustainability and enjoying the great natural environment we all love,” Cr Connolly said.

“At present, roughly 85 per cent of trips made by Sunshine Coast residents are by private motor vehicle, so by integrating more sustainable transport options into key developments and community hubs, we can have a positive impact on the Coast lifestyle and environment.”

“The First Light team has really embraced the initiative and I am confident that as others in the area recognise the convenience and popularity of the bikes, we’ll be seeing more of them in future.”

Cr Connolly said Sunshine Coast Council was committed to making the Sunshine Coast Australia’s most sustainable region and felt any initiatives that promoted the use of more sustainable transport methods were a win for the environment and by extension, the people of the Sunshine Coast.

“I’d like to think we will see more bike racks in front of accommodation houses, more promotion of the beautiful walks and coastal pathways we have and more thought around how we can get people out of their cars and enjoying the fresh air wherever possible.”

“The Sunshine Coast Sustainable Transport Strategy certainly promotes this mentality, and it’s great to see developers being so supportive of these types of initiatives.”

RPG CEO Jay Emmerton said the move reinforced the group’s commitment to finding innovative ways to be more sustainable and provided a win for Mooloolaba’s newest residents.

“We love our new bikes at First Light and are delighted to be able to offer them to the residents who will be moving into the development in the next couple of weeks,” Mr Emmerton said.

“We are very supportive of any initiatives that are kind to the environment and improve the experience for our buyers.  Other than the benefit of convenience and getting some exercise, the bikes also have zero impact on traffic and parking in Mooloolaba.”

The bikes have a travel distance of up to 50km when fully charged, take about five hours to recharge and cost only 10 cents in electricity to recharge.  While the small motor helps riders enjoy an easier ride, the bike is virtually silent.

Mr Emmerton said the arrival of the bikes certainly created a buzz at First Light, which is located on the last remaining block to be developed on the highly sought-after First Avenue.

“It’s amazing how much attention they have drawn, and we’ve received a number of enquiries regarding the four remaining apartments over the past week since they have arrived.”

“We’re looking forward to welcoming our first residents over the coming fortnight and expect the remaining apartments will sell quickly once settlements commence shortly.”

First Light Mooloolaba consists of 67 architecturally designed, two-bedroom apartments and two penthouses across 13 levels and includes a pool, fitness room, barbeque facilities and secure parking.

Prices start from $410,000 for remaining apartments and those interested in more information can call Cathie Price on 0413 068 602 or visit www.firstlightmooloolaba.com.au.
